Do you want to start a blog sharing your mom’s experiences to build a thriving online business? I know that feeling! When I first decided to start my blog, I had no idea it would completely transform my financial life.
Let’s be honest – juggling kids, household responsibilities, and maybe even a day job leaves little room for side hustles. But here’s the thing: Mom bloggers are making money all while working on their own schedules and, most importantly, from home!
I started my mom blog to take control of my financial life and spend more time at home with my children.
My goal is to help busy moms quit their day jobs, work flexible hours from home, and spend more time with their families.
If you are ready to grow your blog step by step and create a sustainable income source, then let’s dive right into how to start your blog and make money the smart way!
Blogging Benefits for Moms
If you’re a new mom or stay at home mom looking for a flexible way to make money, blogging offers incredible benefits that fit perfectly with your lifestyle!
1. The most flexible side hustle
You can work from anywhere in the world and at any time of the day. 5 am before you go to work or 9 pm when your kids are already asleep – anything goes!

2. No limit on your earnings
The sky is the limit as far as the money you can make blogging, and you can develop multiple streams of income just with one single blog.
The successful blogger Sophia Lee makes more than $1M a year with her blog (as shared in her detailed income report).
3. Best side hustle for introverts
There’s no need to show your face online or schedule Zoom calls with customers. It’s only you and your laptop when it suits you the most, even in your pajamas!
I’m an introvert, and instead of fighting this and trying to become something else, I decided that the easiest way for me to make money online is to go with something that I enjoy!
This is why I started this blog. I truly enjoy writing on my blog, and it fits my busy schedule perfectly.

4. Make money by sharing your experiences as a mom.
It’s the easiest thing ever. You already know what you are talking about; you live it every day of your life.
Whether you are a new mom starting a mommy blog, a parenting blog, or writing about your relationship with your partner, you are already an expert.
This will make the writing so much faster, and your conversion rate on affiliate products will skyrocket as your readers perceive you as an expert.
5. Grow a Personal Brand
A blog can position you as an authority in the specific mom niche you chose. When you are an authority, brands will start reaching out to you for sponsorship deals.
You will be able to launch your own product or write an e-book. The opportunities are endless when you establish yourself as a brand in your niche.
How do Mom Blogs Make Money?
Here are the main 3 ways –
Affiliate marketing
Sharing your experiences and reviewing baby products as a new mom blogger can be highly profitable.
When you recommend a product that you use yourself and are an affiliate for, you will get a commission every time someone buys the product through your link.

Ads
Mom bloggers who reach specific traffic numbers and get accepted by media companies (like Mediavine and Raptive ) can start making money by placing ads on their blog.
Most media companies will pay bloggers based on their CPM (Cost Per Mille), which is the amount advertisers are willing to pay per 1,000 ad impressions.
Which means that the more traffic you can get to your site – your earnings will grow accordingly.
Sponsorships
When a blog starts to attract attention and show up frequently on Google searches for specific and relevant keywords for a specific audience, brands start to notice it and reach out with brand deal opportunities.
Learning how to negotiate with brands and get the best deal for a sponsored post on your site is a very important skill to develop if you want to be successful in making money blogging.
How to Start a Mom Blog And Make Money – Step By Step
1. Choose a Mom Blog Niche
Most Profitable Mom Blog Niche Ideas
- Eco-friendly products for children and babies (wooden toys, Montessori toys, eco-friendly furniture)
- Family travel (family-friendly hotels, flight deals, all-inclusive family resorts)
- Baby gear (strollers, infant car seats, baby furniture), and more.
- Home organization and lifestyle (home decor, organization and storage solutions, crafts blog)
- Finance and budgeting for families (budgeting apps, financial planning tools, credit cards, insurance)
How to Choose a Blogging Niche
⇒Pick a niche that you would like to write about and continue researching for the next 5-10 years.
If you think this niche is not going to be that interesting for you in a few years’ time, then choose another one. Otherwise, it will be extremely difficult for you to continue writing new content and learning more about it.
⇒Pick a niche that has profitable products to promote. Most of your income will come from affiliate marketing and sponsorship deals. If the products in your niche are priced very low, there is not much potential in this niche, even if you get significant traffic.
For example, if your blog only features baby food that costs a few dollars each, you will struggle to make more than a few hundred dollars a month.
⇒Pick a niche that is not highly competitive on Google.
Some of the niches are so competitive that it can take you 6 months to even a year to rank your posts on Google, even if the content is perfect.
This is why it is better to do keyword research before picking your niche to understand what it will take to get organic traffic from Google in this niche.
2. Set Up Hosting
The first thing you need to do to start a WordPress blog is get a hosting plan (this will allow you to access the WordPress dashboard right away, install a theme, and start writing your first blog post.
The best option to start a blogging business is for you to have a self hosted blog.
A self-hosted blog is a blog that you own and can fully control.
Instead of using a free blog site like Blogger (where the blogging platform owns the space), you buy your own space online.
When you have a self-hosted blog, you can also choose your blog’s name (a domain name).
With a self-hosted blog, you can:
Make your blog look however you want (with a free or paid theme)
Put ads on it to make money (because this is YOUR space)
- Fully control what happens on your blog (like which website builder you use or which hosting company you go with).
To get your self-hosted plan for the cheapest price on the internet, you can use this exclusive offer from Bluehost – Get Bluehost Hosting for less than a cup of coffee a Month + A Free Domain.
Click on the Starter plan, and let’s choose your new domain name for free.

3. Choose a Blog Name and Get it for FREE
Your new domain name can include your name or can be a short description of your blog.
Here are a few things to consider when choosing a domain –
- Better to have a short name that will include 2-3 words.
However, if the perfect name for your blog is 4 words – go for it! As you can see, my blog’s name has 4 words (Busy Mom Side Hustle), as this name made the most sense for my blogging niche.
- Try to be creative with your name to stand out in Google search.
- If you struggle to find a good name, start working on your blog without it! Don’t let that name search keep you from starting your blogging business.
When you use the exclusive offer from Bluehost, you can click on “Choose a domain later,” start working on your blog, and get your free domain later.

4. Start a WordPress Blog
Once you finish the checkout on Bluehost, your WordPress installation will start automatically! So you don’t need to install WordPress yourself or have any technical knowledge, which makes the whole process much easier and faster.
Because this is the space you bought online, you are using WordPress org (not .com) to build your blog—which is the most recommended option!
WordPress com is a commercial company that rents out the space for your blog, and you don’t want to continue paying ‘rent’ and letting someone else control what you can do with your blog.
You can check here:
What is WordPress org vs. WordPress com, and which is Better for Starting Your Own Blog?

5. Choose a Theme
Now that your WordPress is all set up, you can access your WordPress dashboard and install a theme.
Here is how to log in to your WordPress dashboard:
⇒Open your web browser
⇒Type your login link in the address bar (see screenshot below) – this is your website name and at the end you add: /wp-admin
⇒Enter your username and password.

6. How to Install a Theme on WordPress – Step By Step
If you want to install one of WordPress Org free themes click on Appearance, then Themes, then click the WordPress Org Themes tab.

If you want a more stylish and feminine WordPress theme, you can install a paid theme, and here are some examples from my favorite WordPress themes companies –

7. Add Necessary Legal Pages
You MUST add the necessary legal pages to prevent any legal issues with your blog.
Instead of going to a lawyer and paying for expensive consultation and legal pages, you can buy legal page templates from the lawyer Amira, who specializes in legal pages for bloggers.
If you buy one of her legal page bundles, you can cover all your legal needs, investing only a few hundred dollars. This is what I did and I am so happy about it.
⇒ Read all the details and my review of Amira’s legal templates here.
8.Publish Blog Posts on Your Blog
Now it is time to start writing!
It is better to have at least 5 new blog posts on the blog before you publish your blog. Here are a few steps to follow –
1. Do keyword research
Before you start writing, do keyword research and choose the best keyword to focus on for your new blog post.

2. Optimize your post for SEO

3. Add images and make your post look visually appealing
Readers prefer photos and images to scrolling through a long block of text, so be creative. Add screenshots to demonstrate a step-by-step guide.
Don’t forget short paragraphs and spaces so your post is more readable.
I use Depositphotos for all my posts (I buy a pack of 100 images, use one new image for every post, and use the same image for the post pin for Pinterest).
4. Share your new post on your social media profile.
I share all my posts on Pinterest using Metricool. Metricool is a social media scheduler tool (also great for Instagram). It helps me schedule all my pins for the week in advance and offers me the best times to post each day.

10. Blog Traffic for Mom Bloggers
1. Pinterest
- Why Pinterest works for mom bloggers:
Pinterest is a visual search engine, and mom-related content (recipes, parenting hacks, DIY, organization tips) performs exceptionally well. - Moms often browse with the intention of getting new tips or trying something new, making it high-converting traffic.
- Search for the best keywords for your pins.
- Design eye-catching vertical pins (1080x1920px), use keyword-rich descriptions, and link each pin to a relevant blog post.
- Tools like Metricool can automate and boost your reach (can also be used for Instagram). You can start a free Metricool account by clicking here.
2. Google (Organic SEO)
- Why Google works for all blogs: Google brings long-term, consistent traffic. Once your posts rank for parenting or lifestyle-related keywords, they can drive daily visitors without ongoing promotion.
- Quick win: Focus on low-competition, long-tail keywords like “how to start a routine with a newborn” (see screenshot below from Ubersuggest) or “how to meal prep for picky eaters.” I am using Ubersuggest for all my keyword research (it can cover all your keyword research needs without limitations and they have a lifetime plan – so this is why it’s my favorite keyword tool).
3. Facebook Groups
- Why Facebook groups are great for mom bloggers: Moms are extremely active on Facebook. There are plenty of active and niche-targeted groups for moms that you can join and see what new moms are struggling with and offer your free guides. These communities allow sharing blog posts (within group rules), answering questions, and building trust.
- Quick win: Join the most popular mom Facebook groups on Facebook and and focus on providing value before dropping links.
4. Instagram
- How Insta can drive engaged moms to your blog: Moms love lifestyle content, and Instagram’s visual format is perfect for promoting motherhood, parenting, wellness, and home life blogs.
- Quick win: Use Reels, Stories, and carousel posts to drive traffic to your bio link. Collaborate with other mom influencers to expand your reach.
5. YouTube
- Why YouTube is an amazing traffic source for any blog: Video content on parenting tips, routines, and mom hacks performs well and builds deep trust resulting in a high quality traffic to your blog.
- Quick win: Repurpose your blog posts into short, helpful videos. Add your blog link in the video description and add a call to action to download a free guide.
6. Quora
- The secret traffic source for mommy blogs: Moms are active on Quora, asking parenting, health, and lifestyle questions. Answering these with genuine advice and linking to your blog for more information can be a great source of organic traffic.
- Quick win: Search for questions related to your niche. Write helpful, detailed answers and add your blog link only if it truly adds value.
7. Email Newsletters
- Why you need to start an Email list as soon as possible: Email is a great source of traffic to your blog and helps to grow your audience. Once readers land on your site, you can capture them with a freebie (e.g., meal planner, chore chart).
- Quick win: Use tools like ConvertKit to create opt-in forms and send regular, value-packed emails with links back to your blog.
11. Make Money Blogging (Monetize Your Blog)
Affiliate Marketing – this is going to be your first income source as a blogger. When you have little traffic, your best chances of earning money is through affiliate marketing and you need to be creative about bringing traffic to your website.
Pinterest, for example, is an excellent source of traffic, and the Pinterest algorithm doesn’t care if your blog is completely new. As long as you create pins about topics that people are searching for on Pinterest and you are consistent, you will start getting results in no time.
Earning 5 figures a month with affiliate marketing is absolutely achievable. The only thing that differentiates the bloggers who make significant income with affiliate marketing from the ones who only make a few hundred dollars a month is the strategy.
My goal is to earn five figures a month with affiliate marketing, which is why I’m following Michelle Schroeder’s course about affiliate marketing for bloggers. My income continues to grow steadily, so I know I’m on the right path.
Ads – to make money with ads, you would need at least 10,000 visitors to your site every month. When you reach this milestone, you can apply to Mediavine Journey and they will place ads on your site.
This is a truly passive income source and this type of income will continue to grow as your blog grows.
Sponsorships – sponsorships can be highly profitable for bloggers, especially if you become an authority in a specific niche.
Brands can pay thousands of dollars for a sponsored post when the right blogger endorses their product. It is actually the easiest money to make when your blog becomes a recognizable brand in your niche.
This course taught me how to make thousands of dollars a month with sponsorship deals.
Sell digital products – There are so many options to start making money with digital products when you have a mommy blog. Here are a few very popular digital products you can sell on your blog: Homeschooling planners and resources for moms who teach their kids at home, mom planners, meal prep planners, parenting guides, and more.

How to Start a Successful Mom Blog – 7+ Tips
Before you start your mom blogging journey, here are some great tips to make sure you start a super successful blog:
♥ Plan how you will make money with this blog right from the start
Once you know the affiliate products you would like to promote, this will help you create an efficient content plan.
♥ Do keyword research before every blog post you write
Always write about keywords that people are searching for, there is no use writing content that no one will find on search results and no one is looking for.
Also try as best as you can to find keywords with low competition so your chances of ranking on Google are much higher.
♥ Treat your blog as a business
This is an online business. This means that in order to be successful in your blogging business, you would need to ‘put in the raps’ and continue to make an effort and develop your skills in blogging, Search Engine Optimization, affiliate marketing, and digital marketing.
♥ Consistently publish new blog posts on your blog.
No matter what your posting schedule is – if it’s 1-2 blog posts a week, stick to it. It is going to be much easier in time, and once you develop a process for writing your blog posts, it will be much faster.
♥ Don’t rely only on Google to bring you traffic
Relying only on Google is a very common blogging mistake to dive all in on SEO and forget about all other traffic sources.
However, the truth is that Google is one of the most unstable website traffic sources. Even if you get amazing results that bring a lot of organic traffic from Google, with every algorithm change, your traffic (and, follow that, your earnings) is at risk.
I get most of my traffic from Pinterest, and Pinterest affiliate marketing is my primary source of income. If you want to learn how to grow a Pinterest affiliate marketing business, click here for a step-by-step guide.
This is why it’s highly recommended that you have at least one active social media account where you post regularly and drive traffic to your blog.
♥ Track your progress
As the famous management consultant Peter Drucker said, ‘Only what gets measured gets managed.’ This means that only if you track your activities and the results you get can you manage and improve them.
What should you measure every month? How many new blog posts did you publish? How much traffic did you get this month, compared to last month? What are your primary traffic sources?
Your social media profile stats – how many new followers you got, how many views, and what is your CTR (click-through rate). Check to see which content is starting to get traction and resonates with your audience so you can double down on that topic.
♥ Be patient
Blogging takes time, and making money as a mom blogger can take months or even a year until you start seeing significant results. I made $3530 in my first year of blogging, and it was only at the end of the year that I started seeing affiliate commissions coming in.
If you want to start a successful blog and see it grow steadily, you need to be consistent and treat it as a business.
If you need an income fast, it’s better to find a job to pay your bills and start blogging at the same time. This is exactly what I did, and it worked perfectly. It relieved all the tension so I could focus on doing the work the right way and building my mom blog one step at a time.
There’s no better time to start than today – your journey as a mom blogger begins with a single post, and before you know it, you’ll be well on your way to creating a successful blog that transforms your life while helping other moms just like you!
This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through one of my links at no extra cost to you! Thank you for supporting the Busy Mom Side Hustle blog. For more information, visit my disclaimer page.
