Considering starting a blog in 2024? Would you like to know how blogging can change your whole life? Blogging isn’t just another make-money online side hustle. It’s a viable business strategy that offers endless benefits, especially if you crave the freedom and flexibility to work from home and on your own time.

Whether you’re looking to start an online business that you will actually like or dreaming of a steady income stream, creating a blogging business might be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.

Writing about things you are interested in, generating passive income, building different income streams just from one blog, building a brand for yourself, and personal growth – the benefits of blogging are endless.

Let’s explore all these great reasons to start a blog today and everything you need to transform your interests and passion into a thriving online business!

Why Start a Blog in 2024 – 17+ Reasons for Starting Your Own Blog Today

1. Start a Profitable Blog That You Can Easily Monetize

The main reason to start a blog is to build a profitable business and earn money online, so you’ll have financial freedom!

When I say financial freedom I mean financiatl independence.

The freedom to live your life how you want to, the freedom to work from anywhere in the world, be your own boss, and grow your blog to more than your full-time income—and yes, this is very much achievable.

2. Make Money Online From Something You Actually Enjoy Doing!

I love writing, especially about topics that interest me, such as starting businesses online, digital marketing, and passive income.

I also get to try new things online so I can produce a high-quality piece of content from my own experience and will be able to add real value to my readers.

3. It’s Easy to Start!

You don’t need advanced skills to start a blog, and you’ll get better quickly.

You can take a beginner blogging course to shorten your way to monetization. When you enroll in a course, you get to be around like-minded people and the course’s blogging community, so you can have support for your questions and get a motivational push from other bloggers to help you keep going.

And just start blogging.

Nothing needs to be perfect, and at the beginning, it is much better to start your first blog and write an MVP (minimum viable product) post type than wait to have fantastic writing skills. Your first blog post will not be perfect, and that’s okay!

You also don’t need any technical skills or required to build a website from scratch. All you need to do is find the right hosting and choose a professional WordPress theme.

4. Discover the Blogging World – Learn New Things Daily!

Enrolling in courses about business and marketing or even the topic you are blogging about is so exciting and rewarding. When I buy a new course about blogging or a new way to generate passive income online, I get excited to start and listen to the course. If I like the course and think it would benefit my readers, I can also write a review about it, add my take on the course, and publish a new post about it on my blog.

5. Blogging is One of the Most Flexible Businesses You Can Start.

A blog is great for making money online anytime and anywhere.

Compared to many other types of businesses, this is absolutely the most flexible.

As a mom, I have many obligations besides my day job, so I needed this blogging side hustle to work for me first! I can work from home at the hours that suit me most and be flexible when taking care of my kids. Even when we travel, I like to take my laptop with me so when I have some quiet time (like early in the morning), I can progress with my blog or create new Pinterest pins.

6. You Don’t Need to Be in Front of Your Computer in Specific Hours.

If you need to care for a sick child or want a day off, you can decide what works best for you. You are the boss.

You can work early in the morning or for a few hours in the evening and spend the rest of the day doing something else, like working at your day job, running errands, or traveling.

7. You Don’t Need to Provide Customer Service/Customer Support.

This is a business with no customers.

There is no need to hop on a Zoom call, make sales calls, or deal with angry customers (and some of them can never be satisfied). If you’ve ever worked as a freelancer, you know it can be emotionally draining and, at the end of the day, not consistently profitable.

8. Blogging is a Great Business if You Enjoy Writing and Researching New Topics

This is also why I urge you to start a blog about something that interests you. Of course, this is not the only factor to consider when starting a side hustle; however, it is one of the factors to consider if you want to continue writing for years and not get bored with what you write about.

If you pick a niche that interests you, you can stay motivated and engaged and enjoy your work!

9. You Can Generate Real Passive Income from Your Blog!

As your blog grows, you will continue generating passive income from old blog posts you published and also from recurring commissions you get from several affiliate programs (like software affiliate programs, for example). You will love that feeling of compound effect!

10. There is NO LIMIT to What You Can Earn – Skyrocket Your Blog Income!

As your blog traffic grows, your income will double quite easily, even though you are still publishing new content at the same pace you are used to.

In time, you will start generating new income streams. When tens of thousands of people come to your site every month, you can apply to ad companies and make an extra few thousand dollars a month.

You will be able to make even more money with affiliate marketing as new companies will reach out to you, and you can also negotiate a better commission rate with the sellers you work with, as they can see you are bringing a lot of traffic to their websites.

Another stream of income that will be opened up for you is brand sponsorship deals. Again, when you actively promote your blog and have the traffic, brands in your space will start reaching out to you. They can offer to pay for a sponsored post on your site or pay you a monthly fee to showcase them at the top of your post and push down their competitors in your content.

11. A WordPress Blog is Your Business Asset

When you start your blog on your own website and with your domain, it is all yours! Everything you write and all your content are yours and not stored on another content platform.

Here is what I mean by that: when you start your online business on a social media platform or even start a blog on someone else’s platform (like Medium, for example) – your whole business and income depend on this platform.

If this platform decides to shut down or just shut down your account for any reason – you lose all your content, followers, and everything you built on this platform – because this is not your platform.

Examples include becoming a YouTuber, a TikTok influencer, or a blogger on Medium. These are all great however, to generate stability in your income and real business assets, you need to gather the leads at least in an email list and have an active email list so if something happens with the platform that you built your whole business on, you can quickly start all over again with the leads that you have.

12. Generate Multiple Traffic Sources

Your business is not dependent solely on one traffic source. You can boost your traffic using social media channels, and you do not have to rely solely on Google.

When you start a WordPress blog, your blog is the center of all traffic sources. You can drive traffic from Google search engines, Pinterest, or any other social media platform. This will also ensure that you will always have traffic to your website, even if there is a Google algorithm update or Pinterest decides to close your account for some reason. You can always start to drive traffic from a new traffic source and use all your content; nothing is lost, and no one can shut down your website.

13. It’s Who You Become in the Process

Becoming a blogger, developing this dedication to your business, and having the discipline to continue posting every week, even when it seems like no one reads it, make you skillful and able to take on new challenges and aim even higher.

Getting to the point where you earn a full-time income with your blog and achieve this goal of the freedom to live your life the way you want to – will push you forward as you start to believe that it is possible. You will be much more motivated to keep going and do more when you believe.

14. The Best Foundation for Generating More Income Streams

It is much easier to start selling your product when you build your brand, build an email list, and grow a group of followers who want to hear from you.

Examples of highly profitable products you can sell on your own website are an online course, printables, an eBook, or even a physical product. You can also start an email list, grow a following you can sell to later on, and more. Everything is built upon this one foundation—your site.

15. Become a Freelancer Content Writer and Start Your Writing Business

Becoming a blogger is the best way to improve your writing skills and become a professional online content writer. Getting hired as a content writer is also much easier if you have been blogging for a long time and your blog is successful. You can easily refer potential customers to a few of the best articles on your blog so they can see your writing style and quality.

16. Become an SEO Specialist and Provide SEO Services.

Similar to content writing skills, as you continue to make progress with your blog, you become more and more knowledgeable about SEO and how to optimize your content to rank on Google. SEO is a major part of a successful blog, and even if you have no idea at the beginning of your blog how to rank on Google or never thought you could become an SEO expert, your skills will improve over time.

Again, it is much easier to win new jobs once you have results to show. If you can rank some of your posts on Google’s first page, you will gain the trust of your customers much faster.

You also don’t need to become an expert in SEO to offer your services. You can offer the same things you are already doing for your blog. For example, if you have done guest posting, keyword research, or optimized your posts for SEO – you can offer these services to your customers (no need to learn new skills).

17. Build Your Brand and Expertise in a Specific Niche

There is no better platform to build your brand and show your expertise in a specific topic than your own website.

When you start a blog, you can build a personal brand. A personal brand will enable you, in time, to sell products and services easily and help you build new connections and partnerships with other professionals in your field or be offered a job.

18. Easily Start an Email List and Grow an Audience

When running a blog, growing an email list and keeping in touch with your followers is much easier. It might look like having thousands of followers on Instagram is a lot, and maybe it is much better than having 100 people on your email list. However, this is further from the truth!

People on your email list are much more engaged with your content than followers on social media, and people who open your email, read it and click on your links have a higher chance of becoming paying customers as they feel like they know you and can trust you.

Also, when you have a blog and regularly post new posts, it is REALLY easy to write a quick email to your list inviting them to read the new post. You don’t have to write a newsletter copy or separate content for your email list. Just invite them to read the new step-by-step guide you published and add a link to your guide in your email.

Sending your subscribers to your blog every week will increase tremendously the traffic to your blog and will also increase your blog ROI in terms of income (whether selling your products or increasing your affiliate commissions).

19. Easily Change Your Old Blog Posts

Unlike YouTube videos, bloggers can easily access their old blog content and change, update, and improve it. If the topic of some of your old blog posts is irrelevant, you can change or delete them from your site.

If you have posts with outdated content, you can easily edit and push them in search results again. No work or money is wasted here. All your hard work keeps accumulating, building a strong foundation for your online business.

Why Start a Blog – Final Thoughts

I hope this complete guide about why start a new blog has motivated you to take the first step. I found that writing new posts on my blog and making money blogging gives me a lot of joy and fulfillment.

Blogging can absolutely grow to be the most flexible business you can run. The passive income component, where you don’t trade every hour of your time for money, make money from old blog posts that you wrote or make money from recurring affiliate commissions—all of these and more makes this business so profitable.

I started my blogging journey with Sophia Lee’s courses (which are great for beginners and affordable, by the way). When I started making income from my blog in my first year, it pushed me forward and motivated me to treat it as a real business.
