Pinterest Tips for Small Business
Starting a Pinterest business account might feel overwhelming, but I’m going to share some powerful strategies that transformed my Pinterest marketing journey. These aren’t just theoretical tips – they’re battle-tested approaches I’ve personally used to grow my blogging business.
1. Switch to a Pinterest Business Account (It’s Free!)
I can’t stress this enough – if you’re still using a personal account, you’re missing out on crucial analytics. A business account lets you see exactly which pins are performing well and understand your audience better.
Converting takes less than 5 minutes, and you’ll gain access to valuable data about your pin performance.
2. Make Your Website Pinterest-Ready
I learned this game-changing tip from Megan Johnson’s Pinterest Ninja course: your website needs to be optimized for Pinterest from day one. Install the Pinterest save button on all your images, and make sure your content is easily shareable. When I implemented this, my pin saves increased by 40%!
Michelle Schroeder Gardner, the successful blogger, says in her course Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing that she adds 1-2 pins to each of her posts so people can choose which pin to pin to Pinterest (as Pinterest is her main source of traffic).
3. Create a Strategic Board Structure
Your Pinterest boards shouldn’t be random collections. Think of them as organized categories for all your content on your blog.
For each category, choose the best relevant keyword as the board title. For example, my main categories are How to Start a Blog, Affiliate Marketing, How to Start a YouTube Channel, and Side Hustle Ideas.
Organizing these topics by separate boards makes it easier for the algorithm to understand my content focus.
4. Leverage Pinterest Analytics for Growth
Don’t just post and pray. I check my analytics weekly to understand:
- Which pins drive the most clicks and go viral
- What times my audience is most active
- Which board topics perform best and are the most trendy at this time
- Which topics are searched a lot on Pinterest at this time, using Pinterest Trends.
This data-driven approach helped me double my engagement in just two months!
5. Design Mobile-First Pins
Here’s something I wish I had known earlier: over 82% of Pinterest users browse on mobile. Here are some best practices to follow when creating pins that are mobile user-friendly:
- Use large text
- Use readable font (avoid script font)
- Clear images that look great on phone screens
- Use bold colors and different colors to ‘break’ a long title into sections. This makes the text easier to scan with a quick glance.
6. Maintain Consistent Branding
Your pins should be instantly recognizable. I use consistent colors, fonts, and layouts across all my pins. This doesn’t mean every pin looks identical – but they all feel cohesive and professional.
Remember, success on Pinterest isn’t about having thousands of followers. It’s about creating valuable content that resonates with your target audience and optimizing it for discovery.
I went from zero engagement to consistent traffic by implementing these strategies one at a time.

Pinterest Tips for Bloggers
Let me share with you my most practical Pinterest content strategies that actually work, no fluff.
7. Write Pin Titles That Make People Click
Here’s a truth bomb I learned from Sophia Lee’s Perfecting Blogging course: Nobody cares about you—they only care about themselves, and your titles should always reflect what’s in it for them! This applies to all your titles, not just blog posts but also pin titles!
Instead of “My favorite face creams,” try “10 Insanely Good Face Creams Every 30+ Woman Needs!” See the difference? It speaks directly to your reader’s needs.
8. Ride the Trend Wave
I discovered something interesting while implementing Sophia’s Perfecting Beginner’s Blogging Course Bundle: what’s trending on Google often trends on Pinterest, too, at the same time. Sophia uses Google Trends to plan her blog content calendar.
My views and engagement quickly increased when I started aligning my Pinterest content with trending topics.
9. Turn Your Skills into Income
If you are already crushing it with Pinterest traffic, then why not monetize that knowledge? As a Pinterest VA, you can help other businesses achieve the same results and make extra income at the same time (Megan Johnson’s VA Ninja course).
If you’ve already mastered the skill of Pinterest marketing, then why not add a few thousand dollars to your monthly income by offering Pinterest services for small businesses and helping them grow.
10. Create Content Clusters
Group related pins together to show Pinterest you’re an authority in your niche. When you create multiple pins around the same topic, your content will be viewed more frequently.
11. Set Up Rich Pins
Rich pins automatically sync with your website, adding extra credibility and information to your pins.
When you enable rich pins on your website, Pinterest will show extra information above and below the image when you click on the pin.
The most popular rich pins are Product pins, article pins, and recipe pins. For a recipe pin, for example, Pinterest will add the title, cooking time, serving size, ratings, list of ingredients, and more.
The best part is that if you change this recipe on your blog, the changes will be automatically reflected on your pin data. Setting it up is easy, and you only need to do it once.
Here is how to set it up on a WordPress website, using Yoast SEO plugin –
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard
- Click on Yoast SEO (on your left menu)
- Click on ’Settings’
- Scroll down to the ‘ Social Sharing’ section
- For the ‘Open Graph Data’ box – click ‘Enable’

That’s it. You are good to go!
Validating your pins? Since 2023, you don’t need to apply for rich pins on Pinterest (validate your pin), and Pinterest removed this step. Once you enable it on your website, you are done.
12. Optimize Your Blog Images
Add more information-rich images, such as infographics, to your post. People love to pin these to their boards (even if they are not in the optimal ratio and size for Pinterest).
Remember to include keywords in your file name and ALT tag for this image. Both Google and Pinterest will use this information to show up on relevant searches.
13. Block Time to Create and Schedule All Your Weekly Pins
Social media marketing can become overwhelming quickly if you need to create new content daily and post at specific hours.
From the Perfecting Pinterest course, I learned the importance of dedicating time blocks to creating all your Pinterest content for the next week or two.
I spend two hours every Sunday creating and scheduling pins for the week.
This focused approach keeps me consistent without feeling overwhelmed during the week.
Pinterest Tips for Blog Traffic
Pinterest is a search engine at heart and one of the best free traffic sources for affiliate marketing. I spend time researching relevant keywords and naturally incorporating them into my pin descriptions. This isn’t about keyword stuffing – it’s about helping your ideal audience find your content.
Let me share exactly how to optimize your pins for maximum visibility in search results.
14. Strategic Keyword Research Method
Start by typing your main topic in Pinterest’s search bar. Write down all the suggested phrases that appear below.
Now, click on each suggestion and note the additional phrases that show up. Continue doing that for all relevant suggestions that Pinterest gives you. It takes time, however, it is so worth it.
This method is great for every new blog post you create. Try to find as many relevant keywords on Pinterest as possible for the pins you create for this blog post.

15. How to Prioritize Your Pin Creation
Prioritizing your work by keyword search volume is one of the most efficient things you can do to get more views and clicks to your site.
Not like Google search results, on Pinterest we are less worried about competition, as Pinterest doesn’t care about how long you have been blogging, and even if you are brand new, you can get a pin to go viral if you get it tight!
Pinterest doesn’t give you the search volume of keywords however, we know that the most searched keywords are placed higher in the search dropdown.
My favorite Pinterest keyword tool is Keysearch (which can give not just Pinterest data but also search volume on Google as well). If you want to find the real search volume numbers on Pinterest for these keywords, then using a Pinterest keyword tool is the best way to get this data (so you won’t waste your time on very low searches).
16. Pin Title Keyword Placement Formula
Using title formulas will save you tremendous time and increase your CTR.
Here’s one of my pin title structure that gets results:
[Main Keyword] + [Benefit] + [Specific Number/Time] + [Target Audience]
Example: “Meal Prep Ideas: 7 Healthy Breakfast Recipes Ready in 15 Minutes (Perfect for Busy Moms)”
17. Description Keyword Optimization
In your pin description, place your main keyword in the first sentence. Then, naturally, weave in 2-3 related keywords from your research in the next 2-3 sentences.
Write informative descriptions – I’ve found that lengthy descriptions get the best engagement.
Don’t forget to end with a clear call-to-action, like: Click Here or Learn More.
18. Board SEO Strategy
Your board names should include your main keywords.
Include 3-5 keyword phrases in your board description, focusing on variations of your main topic (for example: “Healthy Recipes for Beginners | Easy Meal Prep Ideas”).
Finish your board description with a personal call to action like – get the best recipes and join me on my weight loss journey!
19. Search-Optimized Pin Images
Name your pin image files with keywords before uploading: healthy-breakfast-meal-prep-ideas.jpg
Include text overlay on your pins using this formula: [Attention-Grabbing Number/Statement] [Main Keyword] [Specific Benefit]
20. Use Pinterest Trends
The Pinterest Trends tool is one of the most effective ways to explode your traffic and increase your chances of turning your pins into virals that get hundreds of clicks!
Use the search bar to search for your keywords. You will gradually notice relevant keywords that are trending right now. Target your keywords in your pins and add them to your Pinterest calendar. When you post about the right Pinterest keywords, you will immediately see results!
Check Pinterest Trends weekly. When you spot a rising trend in your niche, immediately:
- Update relevant old blog posts with the trending content and keywords
- Create 3-5 new pin designs
- Schedule them to post at peak times (8-10 PM EST shows highest engagement)
Here is an example of the search trend in the U.S. in the last year for the keyword ‘crafts ideas’ and the additional suggested keywords:

21. Click-Through Rate Optimization
Place your most compelling information in the beginning of your pin title – that’s what shows up in search results. Use specific numbers (“67% more effective” rather than “more effective”) and action words (“Transform” instead of “Change”) to increase clicks.
Remember, Pinterest SEO success comes from SEO (search engine optimization) best practices. However, once your pin shows up in search results, your engaging title will get you the click you want!
Consistently target your audience’s questions in your title and description so they’ll know that your pin and blog post are the right places for them to find the information they need.
Pinterest Affiliate Marketing Tips
Some of the most successful bloggers use Pinterest only to make money through affiliate marketing, as the platform is so powerful for affiliate commissions.

22. Create a recommendation page on your website
For examples – ‘tools I use and recommend’- this will be visually appealing and easy to scan for the readers. Sara Finance, in her affiliate marketing course, is using Shopify for that, creating a visual box for each brand with their logo and a button with a call to action.
A short description and a button with engaging text will make the customers want to click.
I would recommend using Shopify if, besides your affiliate business, you are also going to sell your own products on the platform, like print-on-demand products or digital products.

23. Show the Value for the Reader in Your Pin Title
Use Pinterest pin titles that show what the Pinterest user will get, such as ‘Get this YouTube automation tool for $5 a month’ or ‘Get cash back when shopping online.’
24. Create more pins of what’s already working
Increase affiliate commissions by checking your Pinterest analytics and doubling down on what’s working.
Which pins are getting the most traction? Create more pins for these blog posts – this is an easy and super effective way to increase your affiliate income by using Pinterest, and it works!! (I learned this from Michelle Schroeder-Gardner, in her affiliate marketing course, which I highly recommend for every blogger wanting to earn a significant income with affiliate marketing).
25. Check your competitors’ most viral pins for the product you are promoting.
You can search for your keyword on Pinterest and see the pins that show up at the top (disregard the sponsored pins).
You can get inspirations for new keywords, pin design and catchy titles you have not thought about.
Pinterest Tips for Exposure
26. Always include your brand name on your pins
Always include your brand name in the same way and in the same place.
For example, if you choose to put your website URL instead of your brand name in a blue color at the bottom of your pin, then continue doing so for all your future pins.
27. Experiment with Colors
With Pinterest, you can experiment with more colors at the beginning to decide on a broader color palette. Once you find the colors that work best for you, continue using them in the future (instead of changing them all the time).
28. Experiment with fonts
Choose a couple of fonts that complement your niche. You can always check your competitors for inspiration.
29. Check Trend Designs on Pinterest
Trendy fonts and colors can change over time, always check what’s working right now and refresh your pin designs if needed.
30. Reply to Comments on Your Pins
Engagement is one of the most critical factors for a pin to go viral. The more comments you have on your pin, the more reach you will get from the Pinterest algorithm.
It is extremely important to talk and reply to comments on your pins, to connect with your readers and boost your pin performance.
31. Use Pinterest Ads to boost your pins
From time to time, and especially if you want to get results much faster, you can use Pinterest ads. It will get you traffic much faster but also increase your engagement and followers.
32. Check the Best Time to Post
Post your pins at the best time to get maximum views. I use Metricool to show me all the best times for a specific date, so I can choose what works best for me.
Posting on Pinterest tips
33. Use a social media scheduler
When you use a social media scheduler (instead of posting in real time), you can be much more efficient with your time. When I create all my pins for the week, I use Metricool to check what I posted in the past week or two to see which topics I haven’t created pins for in a long time.
34. Use Infographics
People are more likely to like and save pins that provide a lot of value, so they can return to it later.
Here is a great example from Pinterest, if you search for the keyword “How to Budget”, this is one of the most viral pins (ranked high on Pinterest search results) –

35. How Many Pins a Day?
Create and publish at least 1 NEW pin a day. If you can do 3-4 new pins a day – even better!
There is no need to spam the algorithm with 20 pins a day to get attraction. One pin per day, up to a maximum of 5, is absolutely enough to achieve consistent growth.
37. Don’t Pin the Same Pin Again and Again
Most recommended – for best results, don’t pin the same pin to multiple boards. I create a new pin every day and I don’t repin them.
38. Write an engaging pin description
A well-crafted description that describes the value they will get when clicking on your pin and going to your website is a great tool for increasing your CTR. It is important to be as informative as possible. If you use AI to help you write your pin descriptions, make sure to edit them in your own voice.
Most popular social media scheduler will have an AI writer built it, Metricool has an AI assistant as well.
Pinterest Ads Tips
39. Decide on your objective
It is very important to be very clear about your objective with Pinterest ads before you start so you won’t waste your money. Do you want to drive more traffic to a specific offer on your website?
It could be selling a product, making money with affiliate marketing or even getting more people into your email list.
40. Measure the results
There is no point in investing money if you can’t measure the results.
Plan ahead how you will be able to track the traffic and the conversions (email sign ups, product sales, clicks on your affiliate link).
41. Review your stats and optimize
Review your Pinterest Ads stats once a day and see if you need to change anything.
For example – if you don’t get enough views it might be the result of 2 things –
One is that your keywords and country setting don’t get you enough reach from the beginning, and the second is that your cost per click is not high enough to compete for these keywords, so the Pinterest algorithm prioritizes your competitors’ ads over yours as their bid is higher.
42. Book a free consultation with a Pinterest Ads expert.
Once you spend a certain amount of money on Pinterest ads in one month, you will receive an email from Pinterest saying you are entitled to a free Zoom personal consultation for your Pinterest Ads.
I’ve already done it twice, and it is the best opportunity to get professional advice on how to optimize your ads and increase conversions.
43. What is the ratio of Pin clicks to clicks to your website?
It is important to understand how effective your ad is. Do you get a lot of clicks on your ad, but most of these clicks do not result in clicks to your website? Then, your ad could be seen as clickbait or misleading.
Here is an example –
Let’s say you got 100 clicks on your ad in 24 hours, but only 50 people clicked on the URL to go to your website.
This means that once they clicked on your ad and read the description, they decided this is not what they expected or were looking for. The pin description didn’t match the text on your pin. This is where you would need to go back and create a new pin or edit your description to be more engaging.
44. Control your Ads budget
You can set a fixed budget for the whole campaign, for a day, or for a click. I like to choose a fixed cost for a click as it gives me the most control over my ad spending.
I start low (the minimum is between $0.1 and $0.15 a click) and increase gradually until I reach the optimal point where I get the most clicks for a fixed daily budget.
45. Target your ideal customer
The more narrow you go with your Pinterest ads settings, the better your results will be. Some examples are –
- Write a list of keywords that you want your ads to show when people are searching for these keywords instead of choosing broad topics to target.
- Choose the age range of your ideal customer
- Choose the most relevant countries
3 Most Crucial Pinterest tips for beginners
46. Fresh Pins
Fresh pins and new blog posts (new URLs) will always do better on Pinterest than repinning old content and old pins to different boards.
47. Boards Relevancy
Always pin your pins to the most relevant board, even if you haven’t pinned for certain boards for a long time. A pin published to an irrelevant board will not perform as well on the platform as the same pin published on a relevant board.
48. Consistency is absolutely key for Pinterest
It doesn’t matter if you pin 1 pin a day or 5 pins a day, decide on the pace that you can pin and stick to it. Even 1 pin a day can do wonders with your Pinterest account.
Remember, successful digital marketing and Pinterest marketing isn’t about posting the perfectly designed pins – it’s about being consistent and strategic about the topics you pin about.
Start implementing these Pinterest tips and tricks one by one, and watch your blog traffic grow steadily. 🙂
