How to Calculate Etsy Profit for Digital Products?
Product cost – unless you are using software that charges you per file you produce (for example, AI credits), most of the time, your product cost will be zero.
The most significant investment when creating digital products is your time. Even if you use Canva Pro, it is usually not considered a direct cost because, most likely, you are using your Canva account for many other things like social media posts, designing your blog posts, and more.
Etsy Fees – these are the other costs you must consider when selling digital downloads on Etsy. All of these fees will be calculated automatically when using our Etsy calculator.

How to calculate Etsy Fees in 2025?
How much is Etsy Seller Fees?
All Etsy Fees Explained
What is Etsy Listing Fee
The Listing fee is a flat fee you have to pay Etsy for every listing that you have. Etsy will charge this fee for every listing you have, even if you are not making any sales.
This fee is charged in all the following instances –
- Every time you create a new listing on Etsy
- When the listing renews (every 4 months)
- Every time your digital product sales
- When your ‘stock’ is sold out (I know, you are listing a digital product and therefor you can never be out of stock, however, Etsy requires you to write the number of products you have in stock – I suggest you write a 100 for each listing you create.
How much is Etsy Listing Fee?
The Etsy listing Fee in 2025 is $0.2 and this amount is charged when you list a new product on Etsy and then in all the above instances (like renewal dates, every time you make a sale etc.)
What is Etsy Transaction Fee?
Etsy Transaction Fee is a fee that Etsy charges you, as an Etsy seller, for every transaction you make (meaning, for every sale you make on Etsy).
How Much is Etsy Transaction Fee?
The Etsy transaction fee in 2025 is 6.5% of the total order amount.
So what is the ’total order amount’ in that case?
It is the sales price minus any discount that you offer + any shipping costs, gift wrapping costs + handling – all of these are irrelevant to digital products. Because digital products are sold as an instant download, your Transaction Fee will be %6.5 of your selling price minus any discount (in case you offer a discount).
If you are a US seller (meaning you sell from the US), then your Transaction Fee will not apply to Sales Tax. If you sell from outside the US, then the Transaction Fee will be calculated as a percent from your listing price (that should include any taxes you are responsible for).

What is Etsy Payment Processing Fee?
As an Etsy seller, the Payment Processing Fees (also called Etsy Merchant Fees) are the ‘price’ you have to pay to be able to process your buyers’ credit cards on the platform.
How Much is Etsy Payment Processing Fee?
For US sellers, the Etsy Payment Processing Fee is 3% + $0.25 per transaction. This payment is for processing your buyers’ payments for you. If you are a non-US seller – you will need to check the Payment Processing Fee for your country (search for “what are the payment processing fees in my country” on Google to find the up-to-date article on Etsy.)
The 3% + $0.25 per transaction fees are calculated from the total sum of money collected (actually paid by the customer), which means not just the selling price and additional costs but also any taxes you have to collect.
Here is an example of the Etsy Payment processing Fee UK in 2025 –

How do Etsy Ads Work?
If you want to advertise on the Etsy platform, you can use Etsy Ads to promote your products on Etsy. Your ads will be seen by Etsy customers who are searching inside the platform for these specific products. Using Etsy ads will push your listing to the top of Etsy search results and will bring more traffic to your product listing. You will be charged per click that customers are clicking on your ads (called PPC = Pay Per Click), which means that you only pay when someone clicks on your ad.
Etsy Hidden Fees – What You Need to Know
There are some additional fees that you might need to pay Etsy, on top of the fees we already mentioned and here are examples of them –
Etsy Shop Setup Fee
The one-time setup fee is $15 USD. This fee didn’t exist a few years ago. Etsy added this fee to support new sellers in the process of opening their shop and also to help Etsy with their security checks of new Etsy shops.
Etsy Subscription Fee
Etsy has a standard plan (called ‘Etsy Standard’) and a pro plan (called ‘Etsy Plus’). You can absolutely work with the Standard Plan (this is what I do). The Standard Plan allows you to manage your account and use all the features including the Marketing features like running ads or sales and offer discounts. this is absolutely optional.
Etsy Offsite Ads
Offsite ads are ads that Etsy uses outside of Etsy to promote listings on the platform, usually it means they advertise on Google but could be Facebook as well. Etsy will charge you 15% any time a customer bought (not just click on the ad) your product through Etsy offside ad – which is great as you only pay for traffic that resulted in purchasing your products.
You have the option to opt out of this if you Etsy store has done less than $10k in revenue in the last 12 months.
Regulatory Operating Fee
This is the cost of doing business in certain countries outside the US. “This fee is charged on the item price and shipping costs (including gift wrap and personalization costs, if applicable) and will vary based on seller location” (Etsy Help Centre).
You can find the exact fee and the list of countries in Etsy article “What is Regulatory Operating Fee”.
How Much is an Etsy Store Per Month?
There are no monthly Etsy fees to sell on Etsy if you use the Etsy Standard free subscription plan. The free plan is great and you can use all Etsy important features to sell on Etsy.
If you subscribe to the Etsy Plus (pro subscription plan for Etsy sellers), you will be charged $10 USD a month.
Another thing to note is that Etsy will charge you an Etsy Listing Fee every 4 months for each product listed in your store that hasn’t sold in the past 4 months.
How to Pay Etsy Fees – Best Practices
How to pay Etsy Listing Fee – this fee can be paid manually or automatically and you can choose the option you want when you list the product.Manually means that every time that one of your listings expires, you will have to manually renew the listing and pay this fee. This of course will force you to track all your listings and your listings might expire (will not show on Etsy) if you forget to renew it.
Automatic renewal means that every time your listings expire, it will automatically renew and you will be charged the Etsy listing fee. I recommend you choose the automatic option so you won’t forget to renew on time. You can always change these settings by editing the listing.
Another thing to remember is that every time you are out of stock for one of your digital products, if you choose automatic renewal, Etsy will renew the listing (and your stock) for you. Otherwise, your listing will expire, and the listing will show ‘Inactive’, resulting in you losing money and sales and losing your ranking on Etsy search results.

How does Etsy Charge Seller Fees?
If you have earnings that month from selling your products on Etsy, your Etsy fees will be deducted automatically from your earnings.
If you haven’t made any sales that month – you will need to pay your fees with your credit card (which is saved on the platform) by the 15th of every month.
You can do that manually or enroll in Autobilling, and Etsy will charge you the monthly fees automatically.
Here is How to Pay Your Etsy Fees Manually:
- Sign in to your Etsy account
- Go to Finance
- Go to Payment Account
- Go to ‘Amount Due for the Month’ – click ‘Pay Now’
Etsy Seller Reports
You can download specific reports and see the numbers for each of your orders by going to ‘Settings’ – ‘Options’ – ‘Download Data’ and choosing the specific report you want to download.
