Are you using AI to write your blog posts faster or do research? Generating unique images with Canva AI apps? It is time to protect your website legally from any lawsuit about using AI!
And no, this is not going to require you to hire a lawyer and spend thousands of dollars. In this post, I will cover how I protected my blog at a minimum cost and in a minimum time.
Important disclaimer: This post is not legal advice and doesn’t constitute financial or legal advice. I am sharing what I’ve done on my blog and my experience with Amira’s legal bundle.
So let’s get straight into the meat and potatoes of AI content disclaimer – what is it, why do you need it and how to publish on your site as soon as today!
What is an AI Disclaimer?
An AI disclaimer lets the viewers or readers know that what they see was created (or partly created) by using AI (artificial intelligence) technology. This can be any type of AI-generated content (like text, videos, images) or even products.
The artificial intelligence disclaimer helps to have complete transparency about how this content was produced and gives more information about the possibility of mistakes in this AI-generated content because AI software is not 100% right at all times.

Why Do You Need a Disclaimer for AI Generated Content?
Adding an AI-generated content disclaimer to your website is a great way to keep things clear and honest with your readers.
It’s like a friendly heads-up that says, “A computer program helped make some of this stuff you’re seeing and reading!”.
An AI disclaimer is needed not just for AI Businesses but also for any content creator.
Whether it’s writing, pictures, videos, or even cool infographics, in order to comply legally with AI laws, you will need a proper disclaimer that provides the right information.
Being upfront about it helps everyone understand that technology plays a part in creating these things. This way, your readers and customers will be aware of it, and you will not be liable for mistakes that sometimes happen when working with AI software.
As Amira Irfan (a business lawyer and blogger) explains, many lawsuits have already been filed against website owners, bloggers, and small business owners because of their use of AI in their businesses.
These lawsuits claim violations of many laws, from privacy rights and data protection to copyright infringement.
Another important reason to include this kind of disclaimer is to limit your legal responsibility for mistakes or inaccuracies that can occur when using AI software to generate content.
An up-to-date AI disclaimer provides the legal protection you need to reduce legal risk and avoid unnecessary lawsuits and financial loss.
Let’s Look at an AI Disclaimer Example
Here are examples of a disclaimer paragraph generated by ChatGPT4 –
“This website utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist in generating content. While we strive for accuracy and relevance, the AI-generated content may contain errors and should not be solely relied upon for decisions.”
“The information provided through AI should be verified independently. We encourage users to use their discretion and judgment when interacting with AI-generated content on our site.”

Should You Use an AI Disclaimer Generator Like ChatGPT or Google Bard?
For all of your blog’s legal requirements, it is recommended NOT to use any of the AI tools to generate legal content for you, and this is for several reasons –
First, any AI-generated content can include mistakes (and this is why we need an AI disclaimer on your website in the first place, because we don’t want to be liable for any mistakes when we are using AI to make things easier for us).
That also includes legal templates that you are trying to generate with AI even if you give it a role of “a lawyer with 10 years of experience”.
Mistakes can happen on your website in blog posts, product descriptions, etc. However, you don’t want any mistakes in your legal pages and disclaimers – any mistake in these pages can cost you a lot of money.
Second, AI-generated content isn’t comprehensive enough and might not include everything you need.
Third, Content created with AI is not 100% up to date.
Even if you generate up-to-date legal content with AI for your website, you will never know when it is time to update this content, what new rules and requirements have been published that you must adhere to, and how to include those on your website.
Forth, AI content can be duplicate content copied from the web. You should know that you are not allowed to copy other websites’ legal pages and risk a lawsuit every time you publish duplicate content on your website.
I use the AI Content Disclaimer template by the lawyer Amira Irfan
I bought all my blog legal templates from Amira, and it has been such a lifesaver! so when she released this AI content disclaimer template, I added it to my website in no time.
This disclaimer includes the following topics and paragraphs –

- Content disclaimer – the use of AI and what is the purpose of the content on your website.

- Legal liability and reliance on content used by AI.

AI Content Disclaimer for YouTube
With the rise of faceless YouTube channels and YouTubers using artificial intelligence to create YouTube videos, YouTube has introduced new rules regarding the use of AI (in March 2024).
YouTube has introduced a new tag called the “YouTube AI Tag.” YouTubers should use this tag whenever AI is used to produce any of the video’s content. For example, if you use an AI voice (from ElevenLabs, for example) or create your b-roll footage with AI software, you must be transparent about it.
When uploading a new video to YouTube (in the YouTube Creator Studio), YouTubers are presented with the below question to state whether this video was generated with AI.
“Altered Content
Do any of the following describe your content?
- Makes a real person appear to say or do something they didn’t say or do
- Alters footage of a real event or place
- Generates a realistic-looking scene that didn’t actually occur”
In response to this question, you need to select either ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.
In the case that you used artificial intelligence to generate content and you answered ‘Yes’ to the above question – a label will be added to your YouTube video description saying –
“Altered or synthetic content
Sound or visuals were altered or generated digitally”.
However, it is important to mention that if you only use AI to help you research and write the script (to be more productive), you wouldn’t have to disclose that generative AI was used.
YouTube Official Blog (published on March 18th, 2024) –
https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/disclosing-ai-generated-content
“Of course, we recognize that creators use generative AI in a variety of ways through the creation process. We won’t require creators to disclose if generative AI was used for productivity, like generating scripts, content ideas, or automatic captions.”
YouTube also mentions that this label is meant to build trust between creators and viewers and strengthen transparency.
Also, if you are creating content that is clearly unrealistic (like an animation video or using special effects in your video), you don’t need to disclose that you are using AI (and you can reply ‘No’ to the question).
You should also know that this is not black and white when creating videos in the following niches: Finance, news, health, and elections (these are called Sensitive Topics).
YouTube warns that channels can be penalized if this is not disclosed in cases YouTube thinks it should have been. That could be a real problem for creators!
Disclaimer for AI-Generated Images
If you create AI-generated images for your site (for example, for your blog posts), you will need to declare it as part of your AI content disclaimer (already included in Amira’s AI content disclaimer template).
However, if you create AI images for other platforms, such as YouTube, Etsy, Amazon, etc., you will have to adhere to the specific platform rules about AI-generated content and declare the use of AI according to their guidelines.
Must do After Publishing the Disclaimer on Your Site
Update the disclaimer as needed to reflect changes in your business, how you use AI in your business, and when there are law changes regarding AI (Amira’s legal templates are updated in real-time, and when there are any legal updates, she lets you know and sends you the new template to publish on your site for free).
Final Thoughts about Artificial Intelligence & Website Terms
Although it can make a significant difference in content creation time and can be a huge time-saver for content creators, it is very important to be transparent about your use of AI in your business. Depending on the platform you are publishing your content, you will need to declare it.
When talking about your website, it is extremely important to have the right legal pages on your site to prevent legal claims, lawsuits, and loss of money (lawsuits against websites that don’t publish the right legal pages can amount to tens of thousands of dollars).
